1. Who we are
Walking in Faith (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a social walking club based in Manchester, UK.
We are run by our three co-founders: Tyler Fraser, Beatrix Awuah and Farida Biney. The three of us are jointly responsible for how your personal data is handled (known as “joint controllers” under UK data protection law).
Contact: info@walkinginfaithsocial.com
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and email list, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have.
We keep it short and plain on purpose.
3. What we collect
When you use our website or join our email list, we may collect:
- Your email address — when you sign up for updates
- Your name — if you give it to us, for example when you RSVP to a walk
- RSVP and interest details — such as events or activities you register for or want to hear about
- Technical information — such as your IP address and device or browser type, which our website and service providers may collect automatically for security and to keep the website running
We do not ask for sensitive information such as health details. Please do not send us sensitive personal information through our website or forms unless we specifically ask for it.
Walking in Faith welcomes everyone, whatever their faith or none. We do not ask about your religion or beliefs, and we do not record them.
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Send you updates about walks, events and community news
- Manage RSVPs and plan events, such as estimating expected numbers
- Respond to messages and enquiries you send us
- Keep our website secure and working properly
- Promote Walking in Faith, including through photos and videos shared on our social media channels
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for purposes unrelated to running and developing Walking in Faith.
5. Our legal basis
Under UK data protection law, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent: We send you email updates because you chose to sign up. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: We use information where it is necessary to run our events, promote and manage the community, keep the website secure and respond to enquiries, where this is something you would reasonably expect.
6. Who we share it with
We use trusted services to help us run our website and email list. These services process information on our behalf and only for the purposes described above.
These currently include:
- Supabase, which stores information collected through our website. Our database is hosted in London, UK.
- MailerLite, which we use to send emails.
- Our website hosting and domain providers, so the website can be delivered to you.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on the appropriate safeguards required by UK data protection law.
We may also share information where we are legally required to do so.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as we reasonably need it for the purposes described in this policy.
For example, we may keep your email and RSVP details while you remain subscribed or while we are actively running events and managing the community.
If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we will remove it promptly, except where we are legally required to keep it.
We may also periodically clear out contacts who have stopped engaging with our emails.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
- Ask us to delete your information
- Object to or ask us to restrict how we use your information
- Withdraw your consent at any time
To unsubscribe from our emails, simply click the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any email we send you.
For anything else, email us at info@walkinginfaithsocial.com and tell us what you would like us to do. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
We would appreciate the opportunity to put things right first.
9. Cookies
Our website may use essential cookies or similar technologies that are needed for the website to work properly.
If we add analytics, advertising or other non-essential tracking tools in the future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where required.
10. Photos and videos at our events
We may take photos and videos at Walking in Faith events and share them on our social media channels and other Walking in Faith platforms.
We will aim to avoid deliberately featuring anyone who has told a member of the Walking in Faith team that they do not wish to be photographed or filmed.
As our events are public group activities, people may appear incidentally in the background of photos or videos taken during the event. This may include appearing briefly or at a distance while a wider scene is being captured. We do not treat an incidental background appearance as someone being deliberately featured.
If you are deliberately filmed or photographed as the main subject, we will seek your agreement where appropriate.
If you do not wish to be deliberately featured in our content, please tell a member of the Walking in Faith team at the start of the event so that we can take reasonable steps to avoid deliberately featuring you.
We may continue to use content containing incidental background appearances where the person is not the subject of the photo or video. However, if someone raises a specific concern about their appearance, we will consider it reasonably and in accordance with our legal obligations.
This section does not affect your legal rights under data protection law.
11. Our social media and WhatsApp community
Our Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp community are operated by those platforms and have their own privacy policies and terms.
This policy covers only information that Walking in Faith collects and handles directly through our website and email list.
Please also be aware that within our WhatsApp community, your phone number may be visible to other members depending on the group and community settings.
12. Children
Our website, email list and events are intended for adults aged 18 and over.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we introduce new features or services.
The date at the top of this policy shows when it was last updated.
